The signs say I need some Peace, Quiet and Calm!

Much to my two boy's delight, we had a special visitor at our door the other night. Isn't this fantastic?

Just for fun, I decided to Google what the Praying Mantis symbolizes. This is what I found at Whats-Your-Sign.com. Of course, I had to add my own two cents in how it relates to me because as my Mom would say, I am "full of Sass" tonight! (my deep thoughts are in parenthesis and italics)

Animal symbolism of the praying mantis includes:

  • Stillness (only when sleeping)
  • Awareness (after about 3 cups of coffee)
  • Creativity (a must every day or Momma would blow)
  • Patience (I seemed to have left that at the hospital when I gave birth)
  • Mindful (Did you say something?)
  • Calm (Calm and the above mentioned 3 cups of coffee don't go together)
  • Balance (I can still walk with a book on my head)
  • Intuition (I don't even want to think what Tuition rates will be when my kids go off to college, thanks for even mentioning it!)

Whats-Your-Sign.com goes on to say: The mantis comes to us when we need peace, quiet and calm in our lives. (OK, so what are you trying to say Mr. Mantis?!) Usually the mantis makes an appearance when we've flooded our lives with so much business, activity, or chaos that we can no longer hear the still small voice within us because of the external din (Did you say dinner? I don't know what we are having for dinner yet. Oh, crap, it's already 6 o'clock?) we've created.

After observing this creature for any length of time you can see why the symbolism of the praying mantis deals with stillness and patience. The mantis takes her time and lives her life at her own silent pace. (Now with a devoted Hubby and 2 young tots, you can't really do that, can you?)

These traits have lead the mantis to be a symbol of meditation and contemplation. In fact, in China, the mantis has long been honored for her mindful movements. (As each year passes, all my movements are getting more mindful and painful!)

The mantis never makes a move unless she is 100% positive it is the right thing for her to do. (oooh, so very calculated!) This is a message to us to contemplate and be sure our minds and souls all agree together about the choices we are making in our lives.

An appearance from the mantis is a message to be still, go within, meditate, get quiet and reach a place of calm. It may also a sign for you to be more mindful of the choices you are making and confirm that these choices are congruent. (OK, little Mr. Mantis, I read ya, loud and clear!)

Thanks for playing along my blogger peeps. I was feeling a little sassy today.

Happy Day,
~MB
