Here is the continuation of my northern visit. After visiting the festival on Saturday, I loaded up the car, fed the baby, and got ready to head south. I was about 5 miles from Gigi's house, when that noise the car had been making seemed LOUD and made me nervous. Now I hear noises all of the time and they never seem to be anything important, so I debated in my mind what to do. Do I just head on home..it's probably nothing or do I go back and let Gigi hear it? Having precious cargo with me, I decided to head back to Gigi's. He hopped in the car and listened. We discovered that my back passenger side tire was bad, so I headed to Wal-Mart to get it replaced and then on the road.
At 6:30 pm with my new tire, I headed out again. BUT...WAIT....THAT NOISE...STILL THERE! I even got out and checked that they had replaced the right tire and they had. I called Gigi, knowing that I could not leave. He knew it too but didn't say anything. I called Daddy and we decided that I did need to stay to get it checked out as it was getting worse, I thought. Gigi was relieved and told me to drive by my cousin's home as he is a mechanic.
After some phone calls and locating said cousin, we crossed paths and he test drove the car. RIGHT AWAY he knew it was something pretty big. He also realized the brakes were not doing an adequate job which I had noticed too. He took the car back to his house and started removing wheels. Just as he had thought...the wheelbearing on the front passenger side was SHOT! This was also affecting the brakes. He said rather confidently that we would NOT have made it home and worst case scenario was that my wheel would have fallen off! People.....I drive on 3 major highways to get to our home down south and the speed limits are 55 - 60 all along the way! I may or may not drive a bit beyond those limits also. Driving at 65 mph and your wheel comes off your car...that is not a thing I like to think about but I can't seem to stop thinking about it.
Gigi and his special friend came to pick the girls and I up. We dropped the car off at cousin's shop in town and then headed to Gigi's. He and special friend had plans to head to another friend's house so the girls and I had some down time together. I just kept looking at my baby girls and thanking the Lord above for prodding me to get that noise checked out! I thanked Him for keeping me safe on our way to Gigi's too as the noise had started just before we left. I thanked Him that my brakes didn't give out on me. I even thanked Him that we were able to take care of it up north..we don't have a trusted mechanic down here yet. I thanked Him for my cousin who squeezed our car into his already busy schedule. (Did I mention he was leaving for vacation on Tuesday afternoon?) I thanked Him, I thanked Him, I thanked Him. There may have been some nervous, thankful tears shed too.
I sit here now watching my smiling, giggling almost 6 month old and I am thankful. We are home, we are safe, and our car is fixed.
Gigi's special friend told me that she had been praying for us to have a safe trip right around the time that I would have left and debated about that noise. Thanks to special friend's prayers!!! :)
So if any of you up north need a good mechanic, I think you should check out Klotz Automotive! He is great!
