Moving On Over??

We have tried to get the computer working for blogger but have failed. We will continue to work on it. I am losing hope at this point. I had hoped to have it all set up so when we left I would understand what I was doing. I know that many say it is easy BUT nothing on the computer is easy for me. I was also hoping that daughter Katie would be so driven to be on facebook that she would have it all figured out. I guess maybe the fact that she can't be on FB is a good thing!?! What do ya think Kate?

Next time we travel to China we will have our own website- unblocked!! BUT for now I am moving over to "Journey to Me"- once you get there click on Adoption Journals. Our journey is public so just look for Journey to Emma Joy and Ella Mei! That's our girls!!

I just have to ask for your help with this!! I am downloading Christian music onto my nano and I cannot find a song that I need to bring. It sounds like an Irish ballad with the bag pipes playing- It starts out "In Christ the Lord... I NEED to bring it with me- I love it and it speaks to my heart! I cannot seem to find it in the itunes store and I don't really know the official name of the song or who sings it.?! Can YOU help me?

It has been interesting preparing for this journey! Already we have had a plethora of feelings going on at our house. I'm sure it does have a lot to do with adding two girls BUT it also has a lot to do with breaking the home routine. Mom is getting ready for China and not able to do the usual schedule- that alone throws them off. Honestly, once we get on the plane we will be just fine. The waiting will be over, the long awaited China trip will have arrived! Oh yes and we will have new challenges! Bring them on!

Praise the Lord!!

The New Trick

Pumpkin has learned a new trick. The other morning, I was laying on the couch trying to stay awake after my early morning wake-up call from Pumpkin. She was playing in the kitchen and I heard her making her "I want this and now" noise which is, "Uh-uh-uh-uh." I sat up to see what she was doing and saw her SITTING ON THE KITCHEN TABLE! Since then it has been an all out battle. Each morning I have to move the chairs away from the table. BUT if we slip up and forget to move them one time, her little sensors send her an alert, she scurries for the chair and climbs on the table. If I catch her in scurry mode, I say, "Pumpkin! No! Do not climb on the table." She knows what this means because she immediately begins crying but stops what she was doing.
New Trick
So all of that being said, here are some pics of her the other day when we found her once again on the table walking around. Be still my heart! Don't worry Daddy was right beside the table while I snapped the pictures and of course we were NOT giggling at her antics. Of course! Oh my!

China Travel - ROLL CALL again!

Since we are traveling one week later than we hoped I thought I would try again to find more families traveling at the same time!

If you know of anyone traveling to China (that hasn't left yet) or if it is you- please let me know!!

I will add your blog to my sidebar!! I will also hopefully see you in China and give you a huge hug!

I'm feeling a little bit like the party is happening without me (right now in China) so I would love to hear from you!! We will make our own fun! (and support group)

Thank You Jesus!

This and That

The girls and I are having a quiet day on the home front today. We've been having some big bedtime issues and I am just worn out as are they. We were really surprised at how well Peanut was handling the accident. For the first few days we were at Gigi's so he could help out with the girls since Daddy and I could hardly move. Then the girls and I headed to SC for a week and half. Upon returning things seemed to be going ok but then vehicle shopping commenced and things went downhill fast. Taking Peanut to the car lots brought on MANY questions about the "fire crash" as she calls it and her memories of the accident. She is pretty skiddish in the car. If we brake too fast or swerve at all, she immediately asks if the car is on fire.

On the way home from SC we passed an area where someone was having a fire. She smelled the smoke and asked if our car was on fire. She is also terrified of a lion getting her at night after having had a friendly, imaginary lion friend for a couple of years. We have told her that lions do not live near our home and that she is completely safe. We even showed her on a map where wild lions live and how far away they are.

Pumpkin has had a hard time readjusting to going to bed in her crib so she has a time of tears after I lay her down. This has never bothered Peanut before until now. It has her completely freaked out. My theory is that Pumpkin's crying and screaming reminds Peanut of the way Pumpkin was in the accident. I don't know but I have a hunch that might be it as it never bothered her before.

The minute Pumpkin starts crying, Peanut starts screaming at the top of her lungs and crying. There is no reasoning with her when she has hit this point even if we have talked all day about how to handle it, how she is safe at bedtime, how Pumpkin will fall asleep but not with Peanut screaming. So I have made a compromise. I am now sitting in their room on the floor by the door until they fall asleep. I am hoping that this does the trick and after a week or so, we can get back to our regular bedtime. I don't know...maybe I am making things worse but I had to do something especially since we have neighbor on the other side of the wall.

We did have a good Father's Day. Peanut and I made Daddy pancakes for breakfast and had an easy day. Later in the evening we took the girls to a new splash pad in town. It was so fun and they had a BALL running through the different sprinklers and fountains.
Splash Pad
Their different personalities come blazing through at things like this. Peanut is cautious, checking it all out and giddy with excitement by just a few splashes of water on her. Pumpkin...well, she just runs right into the action giggling with delight as water pours over her face.
Splash Pad

Splash Pad
We ended our evening at Steak and Shake per Peanut's request. These girls LOVE their Daddy so much!
Daddy's Girls
Thanks to a new friend here in town, we were able to go out on Tuesday childless and shop for a new vehicle. This was a very stressful day for me but we really do feel like we found a great vehicle for a good deal (compared to the other vehicles on our list). We were debating on whether to make the jump from a car family to a mini-van family. We made the jump with a Kia Sedona. We really like our new vehicle as do the girls! Yeah! It feels like we've had it forever already.
New Vehicle
We had been renting a red Dodge Charger. That was ALOT of fun to drive around town. Sorry for the weird picture. The lens must have fogged up because it was so hot outside. Oops!
Rental
Now we wait for the closing on our house up north. That was supposed to happen on Monday but has been delayed as some things aren't done for the second inspection. We are really anxious for this to just be done. The whole thing has been a roller coaster for us. Somedays it seemed like it was sold and others it seemed like it was falling through. Continue to be in prayer that things fall into place and the closing does take place this week. We really need to close this chapter and move on.

Daddy and I are pretty well healed up now. I still have some pain when I lift my arms over my head but that seems to be about it. I think I will have a scar on my chest where the seat belt got me, but I really don't care about that. In a way it is a reminder to me of what God spared us from. I haven't been able to go back and look at the pictures of the car at all. They make me feel sick to my stomach so I just avoid them. I had to drive past where the accident took place the other day by myself and that was difficult. I was flooded with the memories of that night but again so thankful for how God took care of each one of us.

Please continue to pray for Peanut especially as she continues to deal with her fear and anxiety. Pray for us to have wisdom as to how best to handle each question, memory or fear. It really does make you rethink getting frustrated about silly things and remember how grateful we are that we are all ok and still here together.

Now we will move ahead to birthday preparations for Peanut's 4th birthday on July 28. I have to really wrap my head around the idea of having a 4 year old. How did that happen?

Where's Pumpkin?
The above picture is like a "Where's Pumpkin?" picture. This is what I found one morning after running upstairs to change my clothes. Pumpkin had fallen asleep on the floor and was hiding amidst the toys that Peanut had dumped all around her. Nice!

The Zoo, The Ants, A Storm and Preparing for China!

This morning we went to the local zoo with our FCC play group! We had a wonderful time with the families! They are all excited to meet Emma and Ellie once we get home! I am trying to do fun things along with preparing to go but it is challenging. The summer will fly by! We have had a rainy month of June and July will be getting the girls in China and getting home. August is often getting ready for school. At this point I want to just close the suitcases and hop on a plane! Soon I will post our itinerary!

So ya know I posted about sticky girl and the ants. We called in our local exterminator- it may have been over kill because the day I made the phone call they stopped visiting us (the ants that is). Well, he came out 2 days later- his idea was to make the ants a lovely meal of sugar, dog food, and poison for them to chow down on. Of course they now have completely disappeared instead of enjoying their gourmet meal. We of course are left with sugar, crumbled dog food and poison on our floor. We have dogs and children- not a good combo with the poison. I am supposed to leave it for 3 weeks... I think not... I'll try it for 2 more days then it's getting cleaned up...

Packing... oh my... I think I need to just shut the suitcases. I am second guessing myself over and over again. We have now added another suitcase filled with the gifts, the girls backpacks, snacks and things for us "to do". I may be getting carried away!

Today I brought Anna into the pediatrician to have her ears checked. Is it wrong of me to say, I was actually hoping she had an ear infection? It would have explained "why" she has been so whiney lately. Her ears looked great- no ear infection! I think both Sarah and Anna are nervous to go to China. They have loved everything about it from afar, but now, China is staring them in the face and I think they want to run the other direction.

I am guessing we will be having many challenges during our time in China. I really appreciate the honesty of the families that are there now. It is a wake up call to me - this will not be easy. We will be a family "full of feelings"! (I will be posting more on this in the near future)
I am concerned about the heat, the fears and the attitudes. We tried to talk about it this evening, they were fine with the talk but then Anna didn't want to go to bed (that never happens) - we may not be talking much about it for the next 5 days. Sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do! So China, here we come ready or not!!

This week we have had people working on our landscaper. They did a beautiful job and we have admired it for the last 24 hours! Of course at the 24 hour mark came a horrific storm. Golf ball size hail, torrential rains, 50 mile an hour winds, trees down, along with tornado warnings and sirens blaring! The landscaping is not quite what it was... bummer... we are a little disappointed but it is a good reminder to have our priorities in the right place. Our family is fine, no one was hurt!
Oh well, the landscaping will be okay and perked up by the time we get home from China!

Feeling Thankful on Thursday!

I'm feeling like our dear Lord is involved in so many more things in our life than I realize. I feel incredible gratitude toward Him. So many pieces of the puzzles are fitting together. So many thing are happening that are way beyond me. I am in awe of Him.

The other day our air conditioner shut down- it is electronic and it said to call a technician. Okay, we can do that except it was Friday night. We put a call in on Saturday morning and they came out to repair it. As it turns out the landscapers had unplugged something and the A/C reset wrong. A few minor adjustments and he was done! While he was downstairs he noticed a possible gas leak- sure enough he was right and he fixed it for free! Thank you Jesus for a missed disaster!

I often wonder how could we be adopting two lovely new daughters at our age? It is a miracle only He could have engineered! How could we be traveling to China at the perfect time. (I wanted to travel earlier, but this is so obviously his doing)! I am mourning that I will not see my BFF in China, that Sarah will not meet up with the girl from her orphanage and that we will not get to meet the incredible families that are their NOW! Hubby has made it clear that in his opinion this is God's timing. He had projects to wrap up at work, a necessary bonus for the orphanage fee for two lovely new daughters and airlines tickets where we finally get to sit together! Yes, this is HIS doing- and for that I am so grateful!

I feel so very blessed and down on my knees thankful to Him, to our Heavenly Father! In just 6 days we will be on a plane to China! The girls, that were only a dream will become reality! They will be our Emma Joy and Ella Mei!

Lord - thank YOU!

Cousins

South Carolina
Here is my last installment from our vacation. We took all the cousins to Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC to take some group pictures of them together. This garden is absolutely gorgeous as is Aiken itself. If you are ever in the area be sure to check this beautiful town and gardens out.

It is so good to have some picture of the cousins together because they all get along so well!
South Carolina
You'll have to excuse me, but I have quite a few pictures to share. You can skim through them quickly. It won't hurt my feelings. :)
South Carolina
Here is one with Dobbie and her "grandables" as she calls them. Check out Pumpkin who look as if she is ready to take off.
South Carolina
Here are my two little sweeties.

South Carolina
Did I mention how beautiful these gardens were? I had to pick my jaw up off the ground a few times. Every turn we made it was just more beautiful. There were ponds all over, enormous trees, and blooming flowers. What an incredible setting for a wedding or an afternoon alone, reading a book or to take pictures of cousins.

Sticky Girl!

This girl is a messy eater and she prefers not to wash her hands after eating!

She often wears most of her food ... in her hair. She does not like to get her hair combed... at all.

She cries when we make her wash her hands...
She cries when we comb her hair...
She cries when we give her a bath to wash out the food in her hair...
Sometimes we have not made her wash her hands after eating...
Sometimes we don't comb her hair...
Sometimes we don't give her a bath to wash the food out of her hair...
Why?
Because she cries...
She's smart...
Were not...
We're onto her...

So are the ants...
Yep, I said ants...
They only go to where Anna sits...

We are making some changes! So the ants don't visit us (Anna) anymore!
We're washing hands after every meal!
We're washing food out of hair!
We're calling an exterminator!

(we're wiping down the counter after every meal... and the floor - my bad)
It's not a huge problem BUT I hate bugs... of any kind!
Especially if they are in my house!

NO MORE STICKY GIRL!

Project Reef Awareness!

Our son Mark has started an "Awareness and Fund Raising Project" for the coral reefs. He will be going to Turks and Caicos for a semester abroad and will be studying the coral reefs.

I had never heard of Turks and Caicos before but with a short geography lesson I now know where he will be heading this September! We are very excited for this opportunity for him and that he has such an interest in the coral reefs- they are absolutely beautiful and they are in danger.

This world that the Dear Lord has blessed us with is so full of beauty and wonder. Thank you Jesus!!

He would love it if you visited his site!! The tee shirts are awesome!

In Two Weeks!

In two weeks our darling girls will be in our arms! They will be ours forever! I can't believe it- the time is drawing near!

We are coming soon dear girls! We are packing and getting ready for our travels! Our itinerary is being figured out now! It looks like it will be an awesome adventure in many ways. We will be seeing new sights and our family will grow from 5 travelers to 7 travelers!

We are all getting so excited! Sarah is counting down the days!! She is looking forward to have 2 new sisters and playmates!

I am thinking about using Journey to Me for our China journey. I like to see what I am doing. The e-mail works but I like to look at it. I will let you know when I have it set up! We are trying to find ways around the block but we will see how that goes.

WooHoo!! China here we come!!

Atlantic Ocean

South Carolina
After our visit to Fort Sumter and a quick stop for lunch, we headed to Edisto Beach State Park. The drive to the beach was gorgeous. Pine trees with palm trees dotted here and there. Small old churches dotted the drive. Old homes that have seen many a year pass by. It felt like we could slip right back into a different time period again.
South Carolina
I have to be totally honest that the ocean with two little children scares me to death. I was a nervous wreck about the girls being so close to this powerful creation. Come to find out my sweet sister in law was pretty worried too, so we designated ourselves as the counters. We kept track of where each kid was and kept count.
South Carolina
The waves were very powerful the afternoon we visited. This was the girls' first time to the ocean. When Peanut saw the ocean, she would not let go of me and said, "Mommy, make it stop!" Too funny! It took her a while but by the end of our time she was sitting in the sand letting the waves lap over her while giggling uncontrollably. Her favorite thing was when Papa carried her out to the waist deep water with him.
South Carolina
Pumpkin...well she is a different breed. She saw the ocean and darted right for it. I held her tight and let the water rush over her legs. She loved it. She loved it way too much because she SCREAMED and CRIED because I wouldn't let go of her. She wanted to get right in and swim. YIKES! I am glad that Peanut was scared at first because she was safe in the sand playing while I held tight to Pumpkin.
South Carolina
I had to get Pumpkin away from the waves because she was determined that she was going in, so we went and found the showers to rinse off in. She loved these and played in it for a long time.
South Carolina
The older kids had a ball playing in the water together and swimming. Dobbie took Pumpkin in with her and this seemed to suffice Pumpkin's curiosity. She played in the sand pretty contentedly after that. My girls had sand EVERYWHERE! They were little sand monsters. It was sand mixed with tiny broken up shells so it was very coarse and hard to rinse off.
South Carolina
The tide rolled in and the waves became even bigger and more powerful so we decided it was time to head back to Dobbie and Papa's with a bunch of exhausted kids.

Fort Sumter

Since we didn't make it to Fort Sumter on our first day to Charleston, we went the second day. We all felt bad that Daddy didn't get to go with us as we knew he would have loved it. I guess, we'll just have to visit again so he can go next time (but in a less hot season).
South Carolina
We headed over the incredible Arthur Ravenel Bridge that took us from Charleston to Patriot's Point to board the ferry. The bridge itself was amazing. You can see a much better picture than mine HERE.
South Carolina
We had to take a ferry to get to Fort Sumter. This was Peanut and Pumpkin's first boat ride. Pumpkin didn't quite get the whole riding on the water thing but Peanut thought it was pretty neat.
South Carolina
The fort itself was amazing. To see the bricks that have stood the test of time and battles was breathtaking. To stand on the ground that had not been there prior to the construction of the fort was incredible. They had to haul in granite to build up the existing sand bar to create the ground for the construction of the fort to begin.
South Carolina
The cannons that stand there today are not replicas. They are what have been there since the fort was constructed. To think of the many soldiers that used them to defend what they believed in was incredible.
South Carolina

South Carolina
The morning spent at the fort was very hot. Thankfully there was a museum and gift shop on the premises that were VERY well air conditioned. We were able to escape the heat inside. The following is a picture of the Fort Sumter Storm Flag from 1861. It is the actual flag that was lowered by Major Robert Anderson when he surrendered the fort to the Confederacy. You can read about the flag HERE. If you look closely in the picture you can see near the middle that in the fading process there is an image of a soldier's face. It is to the right of the star that is in the second row and second column.
South Carolina
We had just over an hour to visit the fort before our ferry needed to leave. It was a short visit but due to the heat long enough for the kiddos. On the way back to the dock we saw a dolphin in the water. Poor Peanut tried to see it but couldn't since it was swimming very fast. She kept asking me, "Mommy, did you see the 'olphin'?"
South Carolina
Near the dock the decommissioned U.S.S. Yorktown is in the water open for tours. The ferry got very close to it. It almost took my breath away to see how massive this naval aircraft carrier is. We didn't get to go on board this time around.
South Carolina
We had some hot, tired, hungry kids and adults after our visit to Fort Sumter so off we went in search of some lunch before heading to the ocean. I'll be back soon to fill you in on our ocean visit.
